Martin County, like many others in Florida, is planning redevelopment of several

underdeveloped communities. The Indiantown community redevelopment area is a step

ahead because it is the only one with water and sewer availability and infrastructure in place.

Other community redevelopment areas in Jensen Beach, Hobe Sound, Palm City, Golden

Gate, Port Salerno and Rio use wells and septic systems.  Those neighborhoods need to

focus on upgrading their systems to county lines before they can plan for more development.

The Indiantown redevelopment area is bordered by the St. Lucie Canal to the south, Fox Brown Road to the west, Little Ranch Estates to the north and Indiantown Airport to the east.

Redevelopment efforts have been made over the past 10 years by the Indiantown Task Force, which was formed to prevent urban sprawl.  The county is now taking an aggressive

approach towards growth and development.  The Houston Cuozzo Group planning firm and Dan Burden from the non-profit Walkable Communities group are working closely with the residents of Indiantown to prepare the community redevelopment plan.
